This year in World Geography class we spent time watching the movie Hotel Rwanda. It is a 2004 American historical film based on the Rwanda Genocide which occurred during the spring of 1994.The movies tells the story of Paul Rusesabagina,he was a hotel manager in Rwanda. Paul protected the Tutsi refugees in the face of the escalating violence of the Hutus, later know as the Rwanda genocide.

“The Rwandan genocide was a genocidal mass slaughter of Tutsi in Rwanda by members of the Hutu majority government. An estimated more than 800,000 Rwandans were killed during the 100-day period, constituting as many as 70% of the Tutsi population. ” (Wikipedia)

The United Nations recognized April 7th as a reflection of the Rwanda genocide. They recognize this day to let the international community keep this in mind and learn from it,avoid the repeat of this.

A Northland students said:” It was horrible that people were so violent to one another, the movie Hotel Rwanda should cause our attention and reflection.”
