Marcos Bell on the Capitol Raids

Interviewing a Northland student about recent Capitol raids

Marcos Bell on the Capitol Raids

Last week, all hell broke loose in Washington as thousands of furious Trump supporters stormed and raided the US Capitol building after the results of the 2020 election continued to be finalized. The main reason that many stormed the Capitol was the belief that the election had been stolen through fraudulent voting methods and excessive cheating on the Democratic side. Many people who viewed this event were outraged at the rioter’s behavior, while some others supported and understood the people’s frustrations. Putting this into mind, I went and asked a Northland student named Marcos Bell on his thoughts about the riot and what his response was.

“I believe the raid into the capitol was inappropriate’ Marcos explained, ‘I believe the raid could have been avoided if they took it a bit more seriously, unlike the BLM raid”. Many people including Marcos thought that the way the raid was handled was unprofessional, as footage was leaked of police letting protestors in the building, and other reports saying that the National Guard did not immediately respond and should have. “It did not start off violent, so I believe the government was fooled as it was peaceful and then went corrupt instantly”.

Marcos talked about how he felt that many news outlets falsely reported upon the scenario, claiming that the events originally started off peacefully but were instigated by intervention by the police and the government. Whether he’s right or wrong, one thing is certain: our countries’ future remains something uncertain for all of us.
