As we all know, Thanksgiving break is upon us and we all are very excited. Both students and faculty cannot wait for a very needed week off of school to celebrate this wonderful holiday with our family and friends. Students have been studying and doing homework non stop for so long and are anxious to have one week of freedom.

Thanksgiving goes way back! People all over the nation participate in this holiday because of what it represents. Thanksgiving is all about being with your family and loved ones and just acknowledging all of the love that is shared. The point is to be thankful and give thanks for all that you have been blessed with.

When we think of Thanksgiving, we think of the cliche like a turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce and pie. But, even in our beautiful country, the United States of America, people are so different and everyone celebrates their Thanksgiving differently. There are so many cultures, ethnicities and races that come together on one day to do the same thing, love and give thanks.

Alanna Ramon, a freshman at Northland Christian, was asked how her family celebrated Thanksgiving. Alannah’s family is from Mexico and she is a proud hispanic who was born here in Houston.

“Thanksgiving is so much fun! My favorite part is the food….” Like any other person, Alannah really enjoys the wonderful food her whole family pitches in to prepare.

“There’s tamales, rice, beans, soup, turkey, ham……” Like the cliche standard, Alannah’s family has turkey and ham but there are a few twists. Her family adds things from their culture,  in this case, the food. And, just because their roots aren’t American, they all join together to appreciate each other!

Thanksgiving is different for everyone, but the same in a way. Students and teachers cannot wait to be out of school to finally get a well deserved break and to celebrate Thanksgiving in their own way. b3zrzdrcmaae4rg
