Movie Critic: Four Christmases

Lauren Lamar, Editor/Writer

Each holiday season is associated with the most popular and generic Christmas movies, while others are left out. One of the most underrated Christmas films that fails to make the rounds at most family gatherings is Four Christmases starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. The central theme of this movie is love, combined with dysfunctional families and the hysteria of the holidays. The main characters, Brad and Kate, are a couple whose goal seems to be pleasing everyone in their family on Christmas day. However, their original plan was the complete opposite. In fact, the couple booked a vacation to escape the Christmas mayhem, everything fell through once they arrived at the airport. Both Brad and Kate have divorced parents, so that means they have to travel to four different houses all in one day, which turns out to be an insane journey.

Although this movie revolves around Christmas, it combines a variety of factors of life that majority of their PG-13 audience can relate to. Brad and Kate are constantly getting frustrated with their family, but after surviving an exhausting and quite stressful day, the overwhelming spirit of Christmas livens their moods to end on a happy note. Moreover, Witherspoon and Vaughn both have an astonishing track record in terms of acting, so you won’t be disappointed by performance itself either. Overall, I would give this movie a solid 8/10 (10 being the best) when it comes to festive films. To get a visual glimpse of the movie, watch the trailer below! Merry Christmas!
