Chinese Spring Festival’s Traditions

Spring Festival is one of the four traditional festivals in China, people had celebrated this for more than 4,000 years. The day is on January 28th, the first day on the lunar calendar. Spring Festival is a grand holiday,most people manage to come home for family reunions, showing their their passion and beautiful wishes for the coming year.

Doing house cleaning is the tradition before Spring Festival,it symbolizes the theme of leaving the old for the new. After that, around ten days before Spring Festival, people would prepare special purchases for the Spring Festival, these often include foods and snacks. Children get to wear new clothes on Spring Festival. When my mom was very little, she would get new clothes and sacks on Spring Festival, it was very sweet memories so she remembered it till now. The night before Spring Festival is New Year’s Eve, between the two years family members would stay up late together. People from the northern part of China have the tradition of eating dumplings, the southern tradition is to eat rice cake.
