TFA State Debate Tournament is Near

Every year the debate team has so much success because of their wonderful coach, Coach Court. But, at every local tournament people strive to do great so they can collect state points. Once you have reached a certain number of state points, you are state qualified and are qualified to compete in the state of Texas’ debate tournament.

Because our team is extremely good at hat they do, we have plenty of people that are state qualified this year and that will be attending state, some even for the first time.

Sarah Lanier, a senior and one of the captains on the team will be attending state this year for the third time. When asked a few questions she had a lot to say! When asked what makes state different from other tournaments, she gave us all what we needed to know.

“TFA State is the state debate tournament, this will be my third time going. It’s different than any other state competitions for northland because it’s not just against other 4A private schools, but it’s against public and private schools of all sizes across the state.”

Sarah told us a little about herself as well,

“I will be competing in Fx, I’m super excited, state is always pretty fun because I get to see my friends from all different cities.”

State is a very prestigious tournament, and a lot of people don’t make it. But is it really that hard to qualify?

“It was hard to get qualified my sophomore year, but after I put in a lot of work that year it became pretty easy when I was a junior and now a senior.”

Wish our debaters good luck at TFA state this year and let’s hope we come out with a lot of great hardware and even more success!
