Lack of Representation for Debate

For Spring Break, many students departed for several different cities throughout the week. Fine Arts went to Italy and said it was a blast. Additionally, some students headed out to the TFA State Championship for Speech and Debate. Normally with sports, especially football, this causes major excitement. Some highlights of the football state championship include (but not limited to) a major send off, a police escort, and expensive rings handed out at a special dinner. After seeing what craze that caused, our debate children, of course, were expecting something as an acknowledgement. Maybe not a pep rally dedicated to the win, as football received, but perhaps a little bit of glamour (since of course other rival schools were receiving send offs from their schools). In fact, Northland debates schools from all over the country (private and public in every state and it’s big news to even qualify for such an event).  However, to no one’s surprise, there were a few cricket sounds as we mounted that bus.

That’s not to undermine our team moms however. Debate team moms were the absolute best in making us amazing goody bags and our coach was incredibly supportive throughout the weekend. To everyone involved, a major shoutout. In fact, our very own Sarah Lanier even won the entire state championship in her event, which is a MAJOR deal. She worked extremely hard to get there and was later invited to the Breakfast of Champions.

Debate had great success in Plano, Texas and only hopes the school will also acknowledge other non football related things, like the fine arts. However, we are still very proud of football for their great accomplishment, we just want some representation too.
