Astros pound As en route to a 10-5 win in game 1

The much-anticipated matchup between the two AL-West Rivals finally came into action on Monday, as the Astros and Athletics, who had had plenty of drama-fueled matchups during the regular season, went toe to toe during the first game of the American League Division Series. The Astros, who had came into this series, after sweeping the Twins in a two-game wild card series, had a minuscule 3-7 record against the A’s. As the game would go on, this would prove to be insignificant.

Coming out of the gates, The A’s rode two homers in the first few innings until Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa both went deep to tie the game. The A’s regained the lead 5-3, but this did not last very long, as the Astros offense kept soaring with the likes of a George Springer double and a 2-RBI single by Jose Altuve. The Astros would hold on to the lead from here as they were propelled by another Carlos Correa homer to add on and get the victory.

Pitching wise, McCullers struggled, but limited damage and battled, giving up a few homers and only going 4 1/3 innings into the game until getting pulled. The bullpen, however, was absolutely brilliant. Blake Taylor came in to bail McCullers out and keep the game in reach, and Enoli Paredes, Christian Javier, and Ryan Pressly combined for 4 scoreless innings.

The next game, which will be played at 3:30 tomorrow, will have Framber Valdez getting the start looking to give the Astros a 2-0 series lead.
