March madness has started and is in full affect. It is almost the sweet 16 round which means a lot of teams have been eliminated from the competition of the greatest teams from the country.

The sixteen teams that are left are Baylor and Villanova, Arkansas and Oral Roberts, Loyal Chicago and Oregon State, Houston and Syracuse, Michigan and Florida State, Alabama and UCLA, Gonzaga and Creighton, then USC and Oregon. These 16 teams that are playing are very good. They are the best 16 in the NCAA this year for men’s basketball. There have already been a lot of upsets coming up to this part of the tournament. One of the biggest upsets this year was Oral Roberts beating Ohio State in the first round, they won with a score of 75-72 in overtime. This shocked many many people and ruined millions of perfect brackets. Some of the other big upsets were, Abilene Christian beating Texas 53-52.The next big upsets were Ohio beating Virginia 62-58, and then North Texas beating Purdue 78-69 in overtime. Oregon State also beat Tennessee which was a solid upset. After Oral Roberts beat Ohio State they then went on and beat Florida to make it to the sweet 16 and they will play Arkansas on Saturday, March 21.

Northland student, Dontrell, said, “I want Gonzaga to win”.

Lucas, another Northland student, said,”I want Oral Roberts to win”.

There are still plenty of games left and many more upsets can happen this year. Most people are picking Gonzaga to win the Final game since they are #1 seed. After this round there is the Elite 8 which will be 4 games and they will be played on March 29, and March 30. Then there is the final 4 which will be on Saturday, April 3. Then the final game will be played on Monday April 5th.

The start of March has passed and we are already at the sweet 16 set of games this year of March madness and there have been many upsets and hopefully many more upsets before it is over with.
