Why do People Celebrate President’s Day?

This year President’s day is on Monday, February 20th. As a student we are very lucky beacuse we don’t need to come to school that day.
President’s Day is celebrated on the third Monday of February, honoring the first president of United states–George Washington, who was born on February 22nd, 1732. Till now the holiday is widely know as President’s Day, honoring all the people that had as served as president.
It is interesting that there are different designations to President’s Day. According to Wikipedia, States like New Mexico,Pennsylvania use “President’s Day”,Washington’s Birthday is their official state holiday. Virginia,Illinois and New York use Washington alone, they name the holiday “George Washington Day” and ” Washington’s Birthday”. There are also states that use Washington and Lincoln or Washington and other person.
“It is enjoyable to celebrate President’s Day,” said one Northland student, “I get to sleep in on Monday!”
