Luisa Garcia attended Northland on the second semester of her senior year, she has been here since January of 2016. Luisa was born in Mexico City, Mexico. And moved to Houston on December 31st of 2015; she moved with her aunt’s family.
Luisa began swimming since she was 4, but competitively since she was 11. She swims for PACK (Premier Aquatics Club of Klein) and puts effort into it: She swims 6 days a week (2 and a half hours in the evening from Monday to Friday and 3 hours on Saturday); 4 of those weekdays she has practice twice a day (Wednesdays and Fridays she has an hour workout at the gym and Tuesdays and Thursdays an hour and a half of swim practice; all of those before school).
Due to her recent commitment to a division II school, she will be swimming in college. Luisa plans on focusing on that along with her academics; which she hasn’t completely decide, she is either going to choose an engineer or a science class with a pre-med concentration.
One of Luisa’s best memories from Northland is when her car battery died and Mrs. McCathran as well as Mr. Norwood helped her get it running. This special experience meant a lot to her because as she said: “they both went out of their schedules to try to help her in after school hours.” Lastly, Luisa’s favorite memory was cutting jeans with elementary kids in order to send the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. “It was completely rewarding thinking of how many kids we got to help!” she said.
