Dolphins Baby Boom after all the Hurricanes

Edward Li, Writer

Hurricane Harvey, Irma ,and Maria had caused billions of dollars lost. With hurricane Harvey alone, the estimated cost for recovery has gone up as far as 190 billions of dollars. However, one bright spot occurs among all these tragedy events – There may possibly be a Dolphins Baba Boom in the next few years.

Scientists has found out that every time after a severe storm or hurricane, the baby dolphins population in that area will experience an increase in the next two years. It might not happens immediately after the storm, but it does happen usually. Dolphins commonly give birth in the early of the year, normally before autumn, so there won’t be a baby boom this year.

There are two hypothesizes for the Baby Boom of dolphins :

First is the assumption that the hurricane kills the majority of baby dolphins when it is at it, mom dolphins have a tendency to breed together at the same time since the majority of their baby is died (sad face)

Second is the assumption that the hurricane damage the fishing boats near the shore, and  less fishing boats in the ocean, meaning that the dolphins have less competition when they seek for food. Mom dolphins are more likely to consider to breed when there are abundant amount of food around.
