Opinions: Homecoming Music?

Joanne Tiglao, Writer

Northland’s 2018 Homecoming dance was a fun night that the high school students enjoyed. It was at Moffit Oaks on October 20th.

There was a lot of attention on the music before the dance happened. The guidelines were as following: no profanity and clean messages. Many people were worried that no music that they enjoyed would be allowed. However, many songs that people enjoyed were played throughout the dance. Some songs were even explicit. The music was better than I personally thought it would have turned out to be.

Here is a list of music played (however not every song nor in order):

Dancing Queen

Kiss Me Thru The Phone

Despacito

God’s Plan

Swalla

Goosebumps

Toxic

Butterfly Effect

Kiwi

Youngblood

Wobble

Hasta el Amancer

Rolex

Like I Would

Fake Love

Africa

Sweet Caroline

Crank That Soulja Boy

One Dance

24K Magic

Finesse

The Weekend

Boo’d Up

My House

Party in the USA

There’s Nothing Holding Me Back

Meant to Be

There was a good selection of music from every genre that each student would enjoy.

Sydney O’Connell, a sophomore, says, “The music was alright. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I wish they had more variety of music.” Senior Lauren Lattin said, “Homecoming was great, and the music made it better! It was a fun night with friends for sure!” The DJ usually does music for Christian schools. I thought the choices he chose were better than the expectations I had.

Overall, most songs that people wanted were definitely played. However, I felt that the DJ should have had more variety, or played songs shorter to include more music.
