Figuring Things Out With Marshall
Bregman vs Bauer
November 29, 2018
In sports today, it seems like there is always beef between a group of players. Most of the time it comes between two players from opposite teams. If there is conflict between players on the same team they will often take care of the problem before going to the public. When the players are from opposite teams, they will, a lot of times, go to social media such as Twitter or Instagram. Recently there has been a bit of a chess match between the Houston Astros third baseman, Alex Bregman, and Cleveland Indians pitcher, Trevor Bauer. The conflict has taken place on Twitter, and has gone viral around the country appearing on Instagram, ESPN, MLB Network and much more.
Alex Bregman and Trevor Bauer are two athletes who like to assert their dominance. You will see Bregman “pimp” home runs, fire up the crowd, or give his signature stare down after a long ball. When Bauer warms his arm up he will throw across the entire field to show off his strength. Before innings when warming up Bauer takes a crow hop to show the entire crowd his velocity. Two personalities like that in the same sport are eventually going to but heads. On Tuesday Trevor Bauer tried to diss Bregman by saying he could pitch to him and get him out easily in a way. Bauer tweeted out “Bet! Step in the box Friday! You won’t.’ …’Also, $1000 bonus for every homer hit off me’… ‘You won’t @abreg_1.” Bregman quickly responded with, “I’ll save them for the postseason next year ;).” The confrontation continued with a response from the Indians pitcher with, “Soft lol” Many would say this is where it would end, but Bregman topped off the Twitter war with the best comeback. He responded with a video of him hitting a home run off Bauer in the 2018 playoffs. As you can probably guess Bauer did not respond. This was an entertaining twitter war, but I have to give Alex Bregman the win on this one.
Players in this sports era will take their conflict public with other players. Twitter or other social media apps are the perfect pace to do that. You could say they are trying to give the people what they want. Well, that is exactly what they are doing because this latest beef has gone viral in less than 24 hours. There is usually an obvious winner in these situations. In this one I believe that Bregman’s last response gave him the upper hand which gave him the win.

This is a little esoteric, but overall this is well written.

I think that people have no clue who Trevor Bauer is. I also feel that no one cares about the Astros and should go cheer for the Rangers.
