Kyler Murray

One of the best athletes in all of college sports is, Oklahoma quarterback, Kyler Murray. Murray has played football and baseball at the highest collegiate level. He is excellent at both. In 2018 he was drafted by the Oakland A’s in the first round. Murray said that he would play the 2018 season with OU, and then return to baseball with Oakland. Everyone thought this was set in stone until he put up record setting numbers, led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff, and won the Heisman Trophy. Since then a lot of buzz has surrounded the star dual sport athlete.

Kyler Murray has made a huge decision recently that will decide his future. On January 14, Murray declared for the NFL draft. Being selected 9th overall in the MLB draft makes a difficult decision, especially when the team that drafted you gives you a $5 million signing bonus. From the sounds of it, Murray wanted to play football. When it came time to make a decision he asked the A’s to raise his signing bonus to $15 million, which everyone would say is a little ridiculous. Many people have different opinions on what he should do. Matt Harrison said, “I think that he should do what he want. It’s his decision ultimately.” Matt is right no one can make this decision but him. Landon Murray had other ideas. “I think he should play baseball. It’s more money in the end, and I just don’t think he has what it takes to be an NFL quarterback.” Whether our opinion is football or baseball, it does not matter. He is the one making the decision.

Kyler Murray is an excellent baseball player, but that path looks like it is coming to a quick close, since he has declared for the NFL draft recently. There is no telling how good he will do playing football in the pros, but he has already shown us that he is a competitor and a superb athlete. It will be exciting to watch as he takes this next step in his career.
