Why are Christmas songs so timeless?

Evan Rebhorn

Every year, we hear the same jolly jingles blasting on the radio station during wintertime. The strange thing is, every time we hear them, very few people have gotten sick of these songs, and that says something about their staying power. What makes them so irresistibly catchy and memorable? This is what I think about it.

Firstly, I believe that one of the main reasons why we remember and cherish Christmas songs every year is because once the end of November is gone and December comes, people start to get into the holiday spirit and want to listen to something that feels festive. Also, each Christmas song has a catchy melody, so they’re easy to remember and to sing along. Not only that, but because of the fact that these songs are only played during the wintertime, it’s easier to anticipate hearing them again and not getting tired of the songs.

While we may only hear these songs for a limited amount of time each year, they always help us get into the right holiday spirit and bring us all closer together.
