    Texas Winter Storm

Texas is a state that snows very little so when the snow storm came it surprised everyone. I the storm knocked out most of Houston’s power and froze a lot of pipes. Most of the stores and businesses closed for the day with only gas stations, tire places and one Home Depot. It would have been a good idea to stock up on food if you didn’t have power for a couple of days. It came as quickly as it left and the power was being restored the day right after the storm so was this storm really that serious.

    Panicking Shoppers (KATC)

The snow storm caused a lot of things to happen in one week. People were frantically over doing the amount of supplies they were taking from stores. Most of the milk and all of the bread was gone. Kroger and Walmart had to put limitations on the amount of water you could buy due to how much people were purchasing. There were long lines at fast food restaurants that were open and long lines in the in store food places as well. There were long lines of people waiting outside just to get in stores like Walmart.

    Deadly Driving Conditions (NCB News)

Houses and Roads were the main things that were affected and the reason why everyone was panicking. Lots of people lost water due to frozen pipes and the power went out for entire blocks. Some houses dropped below nineteen degrees and caused people to use dangerous ways to stay warm. Grills were lit inside houses to keep warm and others stayed in the car to warm up. Staying in the car too long leads to excessive carbon monoxide buildup in the car while we’re also releasing carbon monoxide and the smoke From the grill just shouldn’t be inhaled.

Roads caused a lot of accidents due to the amount of people that weren’t used to driving on snow or had cars that weren’t equipped to handle the weather. If you could even make it out of the driveway getting your car up and running was the least of your worries. Most of the traffic lights went out turning most of the busy roads into four way stops. The weather also caused a one hundred car pile up due to icy roads. around twenty one people died and about thirty were taken two a hospital. Twenty four fire units responded to the incident.

With all this happening within one week people wonder what could’ve been done to prevent this catastrophe. The seriousness of this storm depended solely on how well your home did in the snowy weather and whether you were prepared for it or not. Every one panicked because not many people are used to this weather and don’t know what to do when it comes around. If you stay bundled up and put on a bunch of covers and warm blankets you shouldn’t have a problem. If your house caved in or got super cold then try staying with a family member or friend if you don’t have a fire place.
