Off-campus lunch has always been highly-anticipated by the seniors, and this year is no different. This Monday, August 26, Northland began giving the ability to go off-campus and get lunch to any senior who signs a form stating they will follow all of the rules instated by Northland: having to eat lunch before coming back to class, and not bringing any underclassmen or someone who has not signed a form with them. This is a highly anticipated opportunity for many because all of the Northland seniors have waited all of high school to be able to go eat lunch away from campus.
Jake McCathran, a senior, says, “Off-campus lunch: Where we spend most of lunch getting the food, so we can eat it during Mrs. Gentry’s class.”
Many seniors state they do not go and get off-campus lunch because there is not enough time to rush down 1960, get their food, eat, and rush back down 1960—all in 30 minutes. However, when seniors do get off-campus lunch, there are a few restaurants nearby that are the main choices. Chick-fil-A is highly popular because of their menu variety and close proximity to Northland; thus, many students go there because they can choose a multitude of options and come back to school in time. Another common choice is Popeyes. Right next to Walmart, this “Louisiana Kitchen” is situated close to Chick-fil-A and is also beloved for its fried nuggets and chicken sandwiches. It will be interesting to see which establishment receives more Northland orders throughout the year since Chick-fil-A and Popeyes have a rivalry ever since Popeyes released their own chicken sandwich back in 2019. It would be great to go to these places, but there is simply not enough time to use this highly-awaited opportunity. In short, the fanfare died quickly.
