Sports and National Anthem

The NFL has been taking a political stand these past two years. Whether it is kneelingor sitting, or raising a fist during the National Anthem, protests have been made. The players want to see a change. They want to see our society make an adjustment.

It all started with quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. Last year, Colin Kaepernick kneeled for the National Anthem. His reason was, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” Some players supported him. Each week, more and more players joined in on the protest. This year, almost the whole NFL has participated. This past week, the players locked arms and sat during the anthem. They say this is a sign of unity. Most players participated because of the controversial comments made by President Trump.

The players want to act as one in this situation. They think that if the more they protest, the more change will come toward their way. Players want to see a change, and this protest will probably not stop until that is shown.
