Sickness Outbreak at Northland = Trouble

Sara Zollo, Writer for NCS Claw

So far this month, there has been 53 recorded deaths from the flu in the U.S. Not only that, but there was TWO Texas school districts that were shut down for a week because of the BAD flu. There will probably be more schools that will come to a close due to the flu. For Northland though, that’s a whole other story.

Apparently, 75/200  of Northland students are out sick including teachers and students. That’s a pretty big ratio of sicknesses. While teachers scurry in hopes that they can find a substitute, many of the students are either worried or impatient in wanting to get the end of the flu. The problem is, is that students are coming to school WHILE THEY ARE SICK. Like why? Seriously. I know that you don’t want to miss any school work, but, you can cause so many other students to get sick too. Buzz is going around whether school is going to be cancelled due to the high ratio of kids sick, but due to the days missed for the ice days, none are left. Which means, WE MUST WASH OUR HANDS, BE CAREFUL, AND USE ANTIBACTERIAL ALWAYS.  So, how can we prevent this? (lol, you can’t)

The only way the flu is spread is through the mouth, ears, or nose (or bodily fluids). One video of an ER nurse (she was ranting) went viral and her message is, “WASH YOUR HANDS.” (video listed below) As I was watching the video I was really surprised on how easy it is to catch the flu! If you are sitting next to someone who is infected and they sneeze, you can get it just by breathing in the bacteria from your nose, because it is spread through mouth, ears, and nose.

I know it kinda seems likes the flu is inevitable, but make sure to wash your hands, eat healthy, and get exercise? I honestly can’t help you with this one 😬 Just hope and pray that you don’t get it!

*A brief message for those who ARE sick with the flu*

Please, do not come to the school when you are sick. PLEASE. Not only does it make people not want to be near you, but it causes others to be sick too because of your unfriendly germs. I know you are probably stressed because you may be behind in classwork or don’t want to miss school, but what is the cause? SPREADING THE FLU AND HAVING AN OUTBREAK AT SCHOOL. It’s also getting teachers sick, and I bet they are super ecstatic about that! 🙂
