Can Pets Get The Corona Virus?

It is a concern for many people who have pets, many people wondered if pets can get the coronavirus. Which is yes, pets can be infected by the virus. Around February 28, 2020, in Wuhan, China, a person that has the coronavirus dog was tested positive for the virus.

Time.com states that “The real concern, animal welfare activists say, is that pet owners may panic and abandon—or even kill—their dogs and cats in response to the news. Even if the 17-year-old Pomeranian quarantined in Hong Kong is infected, health authorities and experts say there is no evidence it is capable of transmitting the virus.”

However, on the website Fetch they state, “The threat that the virus causing COVID-19 could sicken pets and spread between them and their owners is extremely low, veterinarians say.”

On AKC.org, they also shared how there is no evidence that your pet can spread this virus. “The World Health Organization has stated, “There is no evidence that a dog, cat or any pet can transmit COVID-19. COVID-19 is mainly spread through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. To protect yourself, clean your hands frequently and thoroughly.”

Researches are still skeptical and doing more research on this. Many other sources state that your pets do not need a mask to be protected by the virus. To reduce any germs is to avoid people from touching your pet, it can spread the germs on to their fur. And also wipe their paws when they come in and out of the house. But let’s not abandon or hurt our pets in fear of this virus!
