Northland Debate is On A Roll

This month will be a very busy month for the northland debate team. The team overall has done excellent throughout this year so far. However it is not over, they will be debating at Cy-Falls, Alief Hastings, Elsik, Langham, and finally Tompkins. Debate students have until February eleventh to quality for state. Currently they have 11 qualifications for state. They also plan on going to california in February for Berkeley tournament, as well as going to North Carolina next week for the Durham tournament.

According to Coach Coffenman, “The students have done really well this year and are currently in a rebuilding phase. However, our leadership has done a great job and have lead us nationally and locally. We are hoping for success in championship tournaments, as well as in nationals. I am excited to be able to have some students compete out of state.”

But what even is debate? Debate is where two opposing sides known as the affirmative and the negative. These sides will formally talk about their arguments about a predetermined topic. This is usually in front of a judge or a crowd.
