Northland Christian has a new face leading their athletics this year. The man chose is Coach Daryl Hobbs, he is a former NFL Player, and previous Athletic Director at many different schools. Coach Hobbs has a history of reviving programs, as he stated, “I’ve always been abled to kind of revive programs. I did the same thing at Beaumont at Legacy Christian.” He arrives with lots of experience that he can pass down to students/players or even staff.
Football is Coach Hobbs main priority at Northland Christian. He wants to transition from 6 Man Football to 11 Man Football. He said, “Right now, it’s very important to get our guys that are returning to buy into the program, and use them as a recruiting tool.” That is very great strategy to use in order to bring back 11 Man. He has stated that this is the last year of 6 Man Football.
Coach Hobbs vision goes past the field or court. Of course he wants his team to be competitive but he has bigger and better goals. For example he stated that, “I would like my girls and boys programs to not only be successful on the playing field, but also, I need the young ladies and the men to go on, to be successful outside of sports, when they’re if it’s going to college, create having families, just being positive in their community.” It’s always great to be a good athlete but most importantly it is even better to be a great human on top of that.
“I plan on, connecting by leading by example. I’ve never been one of those coaches that, just talk to talk. I like to walk it as well. And I think that by doing that, I will have the rest of the coaches and the kids following me.” This is how Coach Hobbs plans on connecting with students, athletes, and other coaches. He wants to be the one leading it, and hoping others follow. He also continued about the Northland community, specifically parents. He said that “parents play a big role in athletics, as they allow their child to participate. And without that there wouldn’t be any athletic programs. Also that the parents have to buy in to him being able to work with their children.” Parents have been a big part of Northland in the past, and it sure looks like that will continue under Coach Hobbs.

Hobbs was asked about implementing new things at Northland. Despite only being at Northland a couple months, he will take his time to observe before implementing anything new. He plans to bring strategies from his past schools to Northland, but only if they fit with the culture at Northland Christian
Coach Hobbs was asked to describe this years athletics with one word, and he described it as “Awesome!”
The future is definitely looking bright under Coach Hobbs, as he comes into this school with great values, and leadership. Hopefully many of the athletes or staff can learn from him.
