This past weekend the varsity boys Cougars competed in the Klein soccer showcase. Coming out of the Christmas break, its always a tough job to compete against top notch public school teams considering many people probably have not completely digested their Christmas meal yet.

Matched up against their first opponent, Lufkin, the defending 6a state champions, the cougars came out ready to fight, losing only 1-0. Midfielder Jackson Fordyce had these remarks on the game, “Even though we were matched up against a large public school who were defending state champions, we played some o the best soccer I have seen us play in quite a long time.” Jackson’s words were not only spoken through his mouth, but throughout the team there was a different view set on what they could actually achieve. And they would need this new found confidence coming up against the next team, Clear Lake.

For the second game, Clear Lake, a tough team that had just come off of a win from the day before, the Cougars really needed to rally together to to fight against this team. After a hard fought half, the cougars were down 2-0, and just when they needed it, head coach Chris Norwood gave the team a fantastic half time speech, to fuel the cougars to come back and end the game 2-2 with goals from Sam Petro and Johnny Ohlo. This comeback gave the cougars a very large boost heading into their third and final game against Tomball Highschool.

For the third game, the Cougars ready to take on Tomball for their final game. The cougars arrived to this cold and windy game, very energetic, and with focused minds. Kickoff starts and the cougars seem to be controlling the game, crisp passes, shots on goal, the whole nine yards. The whole game being battled out, there was no telling where this game was going to go, but with a late goal from Johnny Ohlo, that sealed the deal for the Cougars, and came out with a 1-0 victory over Tomball High.
