The World Baseball Classic is a tournament played every four years. For baseball fanatics, it equals the FIFA World Cup. This year, 32 teams competed in the tournament. Only 16 reached the brackets and of course, only one ended winning it all. Depending on the country that one resides, the World Baseball Classic might not affect a bit, but for the countries that have a large baseball fandom, it affects them daily in the most positive way.

I can tell from experience, in Puerto Rico the WBC (World Baseball Classic) is huge deal. From start to end the celebrations and activities regarding baseball are endless. For example, during this tournament, the Puerto Rican team decided to show their unity in one another by dyeing their hair blonde or platinum. The people of Puerto Rico noticed this trend within the team and decided the trend should expand through the whole country. Then began the craze of Team Rubio, translated to Team Blonde. Thousands and  thousands of fans began dyeing their hair or wearing wigs in honor of the team and simply because they wanted to show their support. I have been in contact with my friends back in Puerto Rico and they have told me that the products to dye your hair blonde have been completely sold out in pharmacies. Also, during the WBC, crime has decreases immensely. No murders have been committed and the amount of robberies made have been diminishing while the tournament has been in play.

Dominican Republic could be another great example. Even though they do not have a craze like the blonde hair dyeing Puerto Rico has, they have shown their immensely support by attending their games and demonstrating their passion and pride for the team.

Through it all, the WBC was the perfect distraction that a lot of people needed. It has not been easy for any of the teams competing since there is so much hate around the world. Once again, sports proves us how important they are . This is one of those opportunities that we get to unite no matter what political affiliation or what country we reside in, we can all join forces and root for the sport of baseball.
