Mackenzie Hoffman, Writer
Mackenzie Hoffman, who also goes by Kenzie, was born and raised in the Spring area. She basically grew up with her grandparents because her parents were hard workers who left early in the morning and came back to get her and her brother, Colby, after school. She attended elementary school at Windwood Christian Academy, now known as Kardia Christian Academy, which is where her love for singing began. When Kenzie came to Northland in 6th grade, she joined the choir and has been in the class throughout school. Kenzie has also always loved swimming since she was about 2 years old. She started swimming for a competitive team when she was 6 years old, which is also where she met her best friend, Caroline.
Now, Kenzie is a senior in High School and has been in the choir for 7 years. She still loves it just as much as she did when she first started singing. She has seen all the different stages the choir has gone through with different teachers and different members. Kenzie still swims competitively and has been for 12 years straight. She now swims on a team called Swim Ohana and swims for Northland. Kenzie has gone to the state swim meet 3 years, and hopefully, she will make it again this year. She’s also still best friends with Caroline, and they have never been in any fights along the way. Kenzie worked as a lifeguard until September at a neighborhood pool, and it was work so it wasn’t always fun, but the fun days are definitely the more memorable ones for her.
After High School, Kenzie wants to attend Lone Star for 2 years, where she can major in Music Therapy. After Lone Star, she will hopefully attend Sam Houston and continue studying Music Therapy. Helping others has always been one of Kenzie’s favorite things to do because it doesn’t only make the people she’s helping feel better, but also herself. After Kenzie graduates, her family is going to move to Huntsville onto a property that borders the Sam Houston National Forest and will live the semi-country life she has always wanted. After college, Kenzie plans to start her career and her own family, which she wants to raise the right way and be the “cool mom”.
Kenzie’s favorite quote is “It’s not diamonds that are a girl’s best friend, but it’s your best friends who are your diamonds.” -Gina Barreca
